Emo rock band Armor For Sleep was one of my favourite bands when I was a teenager. Their songs got me through difficult times, and many emo kids will say this kind of shit, and without them saying much else, you just know how much the band meant to them.
I met frontman Ben Jorgensen in the early 2010s when he went on a solo tour of Australia. I would not meet him again until over ten years later when I travelled to New York and went to a concert on the band’s tour celebrating the 20 year anniversary of their incredible album “What To Do When You Are Dead”. The band had also come out with “The Rain Museum” in 2022 which was inspired by a recent dark time in Ben’s life, which I could really relate to.
In a recent clip on Instagram, Ben explained where the inspiration for the band’s upcoming album “There Is No Memory” came from. He references the notion that although we have free will, a lot of decisions in our lives are impacted by previous pain and experiences pulling strings. The title comes from a moment where he was working on the songs and pushing his computer too hard, and before the computer shut itself down, it showed the message “there is no memory”.
The album comes out on 7 November 2025.
